 Is PragerU Material in YOUR Child’s School?

With the defunding of PBS, educational programs like Sesame Street are being replaced with right-wing propaganda that is rife with conspiracy theories, misinformation and racism.

Since its founding in 2009, PragerU has become a juggernaut in the conservative educational media space, with their videos reaching millions of followers across social media. The organization has helped launch the media careers of right-wing figures like Candace Owens. Their popular videos elevate narratives that have been sharply criticized as climate denialist, Islamophobic, and “misleading” about slavery.

Florida was one of the first states to adopt the PragerU curriculum. In this example video, the retelling of history includes a defense that ‘slavery wasn’t so bad’ and was preferable to being killed. Go to the 13 minutes-mark for this bit, though you really should watch the entire video to understand what your children are being taught in classrooms that use PragerU materials.

“When MAGA says it wants to replace woke history with the truth, what they mean is burying the uncomfortable facts,” said cultural studies professor Timothy Messer-Kruse, linking to a critical essay on PragerU by historian Seth Cotlar.

MediaMatters put together a list of “lessons” imparted by PragerU videos that help you understand the right-wing indoctrination being forced upon a captive audience – our children – and paid for with our tax dollars. Groups like “Moms for Liberty” love to claim the high ground on “parental rights” while insisting that schools remove materials THEY find objectional. “Parental Rights” is not the exclusive domain of the reactionary right-wing. If YOU find PragerU materials objectionable, now is the time to stand up to your local school board and demand they respect YOUR parental rights and remove these materials from your child’s classroom.
