Policy Matters: Property Tax Ballot Question

On June 2, the Florida Legislature advanced a measure (HJR 1-F) that, if passed by voters, would increase the state’s homestead exemption, create a pathway for the full elimination of non-school property taxes on homesteads, and reduce the assessment growth cap on non-homesteaded properties. The proposed amendment to Florida’s state constitution — Amendment 3 — would have devastating impacts on local services and would lead to a cost shift as localities look for ways to balance their budgets.
