Texas Dems’ Bold Move

Trump told the Texas GOP to take an already-gerrymandered state and gerrymander it more. Texas Republicans heard the order loud and clear, and now they’re expediting a norm-busting mid-decade redistricting scheme that all but guarantees Republicans five more House seats next November. In a state that Trump won with 56% of the vote, Republicans under this map would safely control 80% of the state’s congressional seats. Texas Dems are fighting back, with some help from friends.

Democratic statehouse legislators are leaving Texas on Sunday in order to break the quorum of a special legislative session in which Republican state legislators are aiming to pass a new congressional map that could create up to five new GOP seats.
A group of lawmakers who fled the state arrived at Chicago O’Hare Airport on Sunday around 7:30 p.m.

Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite who is serving a 20-year sentence for trafficking underage girls for Jeffrey Epstein, has been quietly transferred to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas. Maxwell’s transfer from a federal facility in Tallahassee, Florida, to Federal Prison Camp Bryan comes just one week after she met with Department of Justice (DOJ) Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche amid ongoing controversy over the Trump Administration’s handling of the so-called “Epstein files”.

Corporation for Public Broadcasting says it’s shutting down

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the conduit for federal funds to NPR and PBS, announced on Friday that it is beginning to wind down its operations given President Trump has signed a law clawing back $1.1 billion in funding for public broadcasting through fiscal year 2027. It was the first time in nearly 60 years that Congress had refused to fund CPB.
